Holiday Potluck

Hello all,

Next Tuesday December 4, 2012 at 6 p.m. in the DFA basement will be our final meeting of the semester, where we will end with a Holiday Potluck. Bring your favorite holiday dish and don’t miss out on this chance to mix with other fine arts majors, hear and give input on UT Senate legislation that affects you as a student, and write letters to our soldiers overseas. We encourage you to bring a toy to donate to UT’s Orange Santa drive as well.

Hope to see you there!

Also, Fine Arts Career Services is hosting the event Grades to Green next week on Tuesday, December 11th from 12-3 p.m in DFA 1.101. Here is some information on the event:

Grades to Green

FACS invites you to its semiannual ‘Grades to Green,’ a workshop for graduating seniors, on December 11th from 12 to 3:00pm in DFA 1.101. Whether you are seeking work in or outside the arts, or just need a job to support your creative expression, this workshop will help you transition from Grades to $Green$. Strengthen your business etiquette, sharpen your networking skills and improve your resumes as you prepare to graduate.

Sessions:

The Job Search:  How to Talk About Your Major to an Employer Study of the Fine Arts develops creativity, communication, and discipline: all important traits employers seek. But it is not enough to complete the degree; you need to be able to communicate how your degree is valuable. You will leave this session with the ability to articulate why your major IS relevant, inside and outside the arts, and strategies for finding work.

Networking
Statistics show the majority of people find work through someone they know. Networking is about more than schmoozing. This session will give you the tools to maintain a professional social media presence, develop a personal pitch you can use when meeting someone at a reception or other event, and offer strategies for those who run at the mere mention of networking.

Business Etiquette
What is appropriate to wear to interviews or other business events? How do I make small talk?  Which side should I wear my nametag? How do I balance a glass, appetizer plate and still shake hands? How do I handle RSVPs? This session will cover these topics and more so you can navigate situations from small meetings to large receptions with ease!

10 minute Resume Reviews
Bring your resume and test it out with a local professional from the Blanton Museum, Conspirare or other arts organizations. No resume? Go to the FACS website at http://bit.ly/V8vjsm and BRING A DRAFT!

Lunch will be provided. Please register at http://bit.ly/SsHLwX. Contact FACS at 512.232.7333
